AEGIS and BSA Accredited
Guardianship in the UK

To ensure your child is safe and receiving the highest quality support, most boarding schools recommend you appoint a guardian which is accredited by AEGIS or BSA. We have both!

Promoting the safety and welfare of international students aged 18 or under

When you work with an accredited guardianship organisation, you will have peace of mind that safeguarding procedures and standards are being met. Our double accreditation ensures that we maintain the highest standards of care, safety and supervision in respect of the pastoral, social, cultural and educational welfare and wellbeing of international students while studying in the UK.

We are not only registered with AEGIS, but also accredited to their highest gold standard!

Offering the highest safety standards for your child

Through our AEGIS and BSA accreditation, you have proof that:

  • English Country Guardians strives to be a market leader in all aspects of our business and demonstrates best practice, providing a child-centred focus at all times.
  • We have clear processes and policies in place that fully meet the standards and requirements of current safeguarding and child protection legislation.
  • Safeguarding and safety recruitment checks have been performed on members of our staff, volunteers and host families.
  • AEGIS and BSA have visited our office as well as many of our partner schools and homestay families where they conducted interviews with the staff, students and hosts.
  • AEGIS and BSA have received direct, positive feedback from schools, parents and students who have been under the service and care of English Country Guardians.

The Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students (AEGIS) rigorously inspects and accredits guardianship organisations throughout the United Kingdom.

AEGIS was founded in 1994 by a group of established guardianship organisations and UK boarding schools to promote universally high standards of guardianship for international students studying in the UK.

In order to remain in good standing with AEGIS, each accredited guardianship organisation must be re-inspected every four years.

The Boarding Schools' Association (BSA) is the largest association of boarding schools in the world and represents more than 640 independent and state boarding schools, over 500 of which are based in the UK.

BSA school members recognise our commitment to the highest standards in student safety and wellbeing. Since launching their accreditation scheme in 2020, English Country Guardians has been a proud recipient of their certification as proof of our professional quality.

"With its overriding commitment to helping overseas students achieve the very best from their education in the UK, English Country Guardians provides an excellent standard of educational guardianship. Each student is known personally and helped individually at every stage. Students, overseas parents, host families and schools are all equally complimentary of the high levels of professionalism and the fine quality of care and support they receive."

AEGIS Inspection Statement

The importance of AEGIS Gold Accreditation

AEGIS Gold accreditation is the highest standard for UK guardianship organisations. We are proud that, since 2016, we have been independently inspected and all our business practices have been scrutinised, so you know your child will be safe and well supported.

The BSA and their member schools aim to work with the best educational service providers via their training and certification programmes.

Their Certified Guardian Scheme is an assurance of professional quality for guardianship.

  • BSA boarding schools know that they are working with educational guardians who have the highest standards in the safeguarding of children. They liaise with parents and schools, and uphold security standards when recruiting and training staff and host families.
  • The scheme clearly demonstrates the quality and intention of certified UK guardians.

What other quality marks do we have?

English Country Guardians is part of the Academic Families group, which has been operating since 2012 and also holds both AEGIS Gold accreditation and BSA Guardianship accreditation.

Due to their admissions services, Academic Families is recognised as a quality partner throughout all aspects of a child's schooling from beginning to end.

They are also a member of BSA's Certified Agent Scheme and hold British Council Certified Agent qualifications. In addition, they are an English UK partner agency, which recognises their quality service placing young learners on English language courses in the UK.

Moreover, staff from both companies have excellent first-hand knowledge of the UK education system and are trained by Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) so they are qualified to support students with any wellbeing or mental health concerns.
